Boise is home to a burgeoning artistic scene. Artists from different genres are collaborating in interesting, and sometimes challenging ways, pushing Boiseans to new understandings of art. With the shadow of the Great Recession still hanging over them, a group of emerging artists have decided to make Boise their springboard – potentially changing the city’s cultural landscape forever.

If this were math class, Boise would have failed its latest test. About 150 people attended last year's Boise City Council meeting when the non-discrimination ordinance was approved. It’s been a deadly year too, with 19 hotshots killed in one Arizona blaze and homes destroyed in states including Colorado and California. In southern Idaho, smoke, road closures and threats to homesare reminders of the destructive power of wildfires.

It’s been two weeks since a deadly explosion at a Texas fertilizer facility claimed 14 lives and injured scores more. Investigators are still determining what caused the blast at the West Fertilizer Company. What is clear is that the Texas facility was capable of storing large quantities of anhydrous ammonia, a highly explosive compound used in many fertilizers.

Boise has made a lot of national top 10 lists lately, but one the city is conspicuously absent from is a list of best urban bike paths. The well-known Boise River Greenbelt does not appear on a list from TheActiveTimes.com, despite stretching from east Boise west toward Nampa. So what gives?
